Prevent food infections

Illnesses transmitted through food and drinking water (e.g. travellers’ diarrhoea, hepatitis A, stomach typhoid, cholera, dysentery, polio and paratyphoid) can to a large extent be prevented by following the rules given below.
  • Hygiene reduces the risk of food being contaminated with the causes of illness
  • Refrigeration reduces the risk of bacteria multiplying
  • Heating kills most causes of illness
Contaminated food usually looks normal, smells good and tastes fine!
