Control departures

At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the passport control and security checks for Schengen flights take place in one central location, which is situated directly beyond the check-in desks. Since 1 December 2005, the security checks for non-Schengen flights take place at the gate. Non-Schengen flights are flights that leave from piers D1 t/m D58, E, F and G. The passport control for these flights takes place directly beyond the check-in desks.

Procedures for departing passengers:

Check-in

  • You will need to check in at the desk of the airline with which you are flying. The check-in desks are situated in Departure halls 1, 2 and 3.
  • At the check-in desk you will be asked to present your ticket and passport.
  • Your suitcase (hold baggage) will be weighed, fitted with a label and taken away on the conveyor belt.
  • Next, you will be issued with a boarding card by a member of the ground staff.

NB: There are certain objects and substances that you are not allowed to take with you in your hold baggage. To find out which these are, please consult list 2 of the security regulations pertaining to baggage.

Passport and/or ticket control
If you are leaving from Departure hall 2 or 3, you will need to go to a central checkpoint where your passport and ticket will be checked by the Koninklijke Marechaussee.
If you are leaving from Departure hall 1 because you are travelling to one of the Schengen countries, the only thing that will be checked is your ticket. There is no Koninklijke Marechaussee here to check your passport.

  • Next, you can place your mobile phone plus any keys, coins, etc. you may have on you in one of the special trays before you go through the metal detection gates.
  • If the alarm on the metal detection gate goes off, you will be searched by a member of the security staff to establish what caused it go off.
  • You must at all times follow the instructions of the security staff.
  • Do not forget to collect the personal items you have placed in the tray before moving on.
  • If you are leaving from Departure hall 2 or 3 this security check will take place at the gate.
