New plans for recovery of passenger transportation in 2010

43.5 million passengers used Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in 2009. That is 8.1% less than the year before. The number of Origin of passengers decreased with 8.9%. There were 7.9% less transfer passengers during 2009. The number of flight movements in trade decreased with 8.7% to 391,000 movements. Cargo showed a decrease of 18.4% or 1,279,000 tons.

Reasons for this strong decrease of passenger and freight transportation and the number of flight movements are the worldwide economical crisis and the effects of the introduction of the Tickettax. Schiphol expects this year to show a careful recovery of passenger transportation with approximately 0.6% and freight transportation with 1%.

That is why Amsterdam Airport Schiphol reviewed and adapted their strategy in 2009 to be better equipped for handling the competition in the future. Key in this new strategy is to hold the social function and keep a healthy management.
