Revolutionary and beyond imagination
Organised to promote the increased speed of Vodafone’s mobile network, the Facebook vs Hamilton race features a virtual racing car consisting of 28,800 Facebook photos raced against a real F1 car driven by Hamilton himself. The virtual car represented the download time of Vodafone’s mobile network and was linked to the speed of a F1 racing car.
This race took place on one of the airstrips at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a highly exceptional and complex undertaking. A go/no go call 24 hours in advance because of wind power, 22 trucks after customs for construction and deconstruction of the event, a permit for a television helicopter and logistics of visitors and press were some of the challenges Schiphol Media had to face.
The jury called the stunt revolutionary and beyond imagination. Schiphol Media’s Sales Director, Gary Mey, received the price. Because of the Royal Chic theme, winners got crowned on the bench that was actually used for the wedding of the Dutch Prince.
It is the second time that Schiphol Media wins this prestigious price. Two years ago, Schiphol Media also won the award for Best Media Stunt regarding the ‘Something to declare?’ campaign by the Dutch Customs organisation. The AMMA awards are the most influential media prices for the Dutch communication sector.
