Schiphol signs contract for golf course at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Schiphol Real Estate signed a contract with Amsterdam International Golf Club for the construction and operation of a golf course with club house. The course will be situated to the north of Schiphol Airport, in the Nieuwe Meer area alongside the A9 and A10 motorways. Investments in and operation of the golf course will be the responsibility of Amsterdam International Golf Club.
Schiphol Real Estate will retain ownership of the property, which covers over 75 hectares. Director of Schiphol Real Estate André van den Berg: 'The area is a premium location for the new golf course, which will contribute to the continued transformation of Schiphol into "Europe's preferred airport", offering both business and recreational facilities and services.'
Marcel Welling, director of Amsterdam International Golf Club: 'The golf course will be absolutely world-class and conform to the highest international standards. The club house will also meet the most stringent quality criteria and offer a range of deluxe services, such as meeting facilities, a gym, bar and restaurant.'
International design, world class
The golf course will consist of 18 holes, and also include a driving range and club house. The par-73 Championship Course was designed by former Ryder Cup captain and US Masters winner Ian Woosnam in conjunction with Mastergolf. The design for the club house comes from architectural firm Mecanoo, and the interior will be designed by well-known designer Piet Boon.
Initial construction on the golf course has already begun, and the grass will be sown in spring. The golf course and associated facilities are expected to be ready for use in mid-2012.
