Purchase and supply chain management

Many of our activities carried out on the airport site are outsourced to third parties. We have compiled a number of codes and guidelines to ensure we remain a reliable partner and to encourage external parties to comply with the norms and standards that we consider to be important.

  • The Entrepreneurial Code represents the guiding principles for the way in which
    Schiphol Group wishes to treat its stakeholders (clients, suppliers, local residents, shareholders and employees);
  • Tenders in the Special Sectors Decree (BASS). Tenders that fall under the scope of this decree (Besluit Aanbestedingen Speciale Sectoren) or BASS are put out to tender in accordance with BASS, which serves to guarantee transparency, objectiveness and non-discrimination;
  • 2006 Tendering Regulations for Public Utilities (ARN 2006). Tenders that do not fall under the scope of BASS are put out to tender in accordance with these Tendering Regulations (Aanbestedingsreglement Nutssectoren 2006) or ARN 2006, which serves to guarantee transparency, objectiveness and non-discrimination;
  • The code of conduct entitled ‘Contact with external clients’ sets out our ethical standards for employees in their contacts with external clients and suppliers;
  • Our Corporate Purchasing Policy lays down that we can terminate our business relationship with suppliers if they intentionally violate the law (discrimination, child labour, violation of human rights, poor working conditions and the environment) or a substantial rule of conduct.

  • A recent Corporate Responsibility document enables a supplier to focus attention on the social and environmental aspects relevant to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. We believe that it is important that our suppliers adopt the same position on specific themes (human rights and the environment) as we do and that our suppliers make a contribution in order that we may achieve our objectives.
  • A Corporate Responsibility Report published recently.
  • ISO 14001 certification: ISO 14001 is a standard that guarantees that a supplier complies with laws and regulations and manages environmental risks. It also aims to continuously improve the organisation's environmental performance.
  • An EMAS-certified management system; in many ways EMAS is similar to the ISO 14001 standard. The difference is that under EMAS suppliers periodically provide information on their environmental performance in an environmental report.
