Amsterdam Airport Schiphol signs agreement for purchase of 20 electric vehicles

During a call for tenders meeting of the Dutch Consortium for the Tender of Electric Cars (DC-TEC) on Thursday 25 November, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol signed a participation agreement for the purchase of 20 electric vehicles. Amongst those present at the signing was Prince Maurits of Orange (chairman of the Formula E team).
The first half of December will see Amsterdam Airport Schiphol issue functional specifications for the various vehicle categories in its 'Request for Proposal'. Delivery of the 20 cars is expected to begin in mid 2011 and continue into 2012 and 2013.
'We commend DC-TEC on this initiative and it is with total conviction that we are signing this agreement for the purchase of 20 electric cars for Schiphol', said Maarten de Groof, Executive Vice President & CCO of Schiphol Group. 'For us it's the logical next step to the rollout of electric transportation throughout our airport. Electric transportation contributes to sustainable mobility and to clean, responsible energy management, which are two key themes of corporate responsibility.'
Electric transportation at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol seeks to promote the benefits and use of electric transportation. It has adopted the electric transportation logo created by the City of Amsterdam (as part of the New Amsterdam Climate programme) and already used by a range of other businesses and organisations. In May 2009 it introduced the electric Th!nk City, which was joined by the Tazzari last week. Both cars are available to airport staff for business transportation.
Stimulating a sustainable Schiphol
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has expressed its ambition to be CO2-neutral by 2012 and to generate 20% of its own energy using sustainable methods by 2020. Investment in sustainable mobility will help to achieve that aim. DC-TEC
DC-TEC is a Dutch foundation established in May 2010 to organise and conduct a public call for tenders on the EU model for the purchase of electric vehicles. The consortium represents the interests of a large number of sector umbrella organisations in the Netherlands, including leading multinationals and government bodies. Its unprecedented scope has allowed DC-TEC to provide a significant impetus towards the creation of a national market for electric vehicles, whilst at the same time securing such vehicles of the best possible quality and price for participants.
To date, 28 other businesses have joined Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as participants in this initiative. The tender includes electric vehicles in the categories: small passenger wagons, compact midsize passenger cars, small company cars and midsize company cars.
