The school holidays for elementary schools and secondary schools are staggered in order not to have all people in Holland go on holidays at the same time. The three regions are North, Central and South. The provinces of Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Flevoland, a part of Gelderland, a part of Utrecht and a part of North Holland comprise the North region.
The Central region consists of the provinces of Flevoland and South Holland and parts of Gelderland, Utrecht and Noord-Brabant. Parts of Gelderland and Noord-Brabant and the provinces of Zeeland and Limburg make up the Southern region.
