Airport charges
Contribution to safety and maintenance
Passenger Service Charges (EUR 14.52) cover passengers’ contribution towards the construction, maintenance and cleaning of terminal facilities. Additionally, there are charges to cover the cost of security and the inspection of your hand and hold baggage: Security Service Charges (EUR 12.68). We charge these amounts to the airlines, so they are included in the price of your ticket. These charges do not apply to babies (children under the age of two).
Tour operators or airlines may also charge additional fees on top of this. These fees may be charged to cover the costs of insulation (noise charge), for instance, as a way of contributing to a project in which insulation is provided to private residences near the airport or a kerosene surcharge to compensate for the sharp increase in kerosene prices. You will often see similar fees printed on your ticket from the airport from which you are departing to Schiphol.
