Basic training Safety & Security

In 2003 the Schiphol Safety Platform (VpS; a collective of parties working for airside safety) determined that staff working on the aprons at airside must receive explicit instruction in apron safety. Raising staff awareness of the related safety and security risks should lead to a reduction in injuries and damage arising from airside incidents. In order to safeguard your safety and that of all airport visitors, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol distinguishes between public areas and areas closed to the public. In other words: not all areas of Schiphol are freely accessible. Staff members wishing to enter areas that are not accessible to the public need an entry pass in the form of a Schiphol Pass.

Only employers who are registered with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's Regulations department are eligible to get Schiphol Passes for their staff.

To request or renew your Schiphol Pass, follow the procedure below:

  • Staff requesting passes with apron authorisation for the first time must complete the Safety & Security Basic Training in order for a Schiphol Pass to be issued. (This does not apply to renewals or requests for passes for perimeter roads, baggage sorting areas or the terminal).
  • The Safety & Security test concludes the basic training course. Upon successful completion of the test, a Schiphol Pass is issued by the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Badge Centre, located in the Triport 2 building.
  • The course consists of a presentation dealing with Safety & Security topics, which is based on the 'Safety & Security Pocket Guide'. After lunch (provided), the session continues with an airside/Schiphol-Centre bus tour. The integrated Safety & Security test is taken after the bus tour. Participants who successfully complete the test can pick up their Schiphol Pass at the Badge Centre straight away.
  • The course is generally offered thrice weekly and is conducted by the Safety Training Centre (VTC; VTC@Schiphol.nl/VTC) at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in one of the course rooms on level three of the World Trade Center, Schiphol Boulevard 161, Schiphol-Centre.
  • Participating staff must bring the following documents with them to the course:
    • Valid identification (valid residence permit and stamp from Dutch Border Police (Koninklijke Marechaussee) for nationalities other than Dutch).
    • Original, signed Schiphol Pass Request.
    • Original Certificate of No Objection.

To participate in the course, you MUST present these documents!
